Name the Movie Game (15 December Edition)

As a reminder, here are the rules:

1. You may ask up to five yes or no questions a day. Each guess does count as one question.

2. Please number each question or each guess to make it easier for me to respond to them.

3. The player who is the first to guess the movie correctly will be the one to make the selection for the following week’s Name the Movie Game.

4. The game will end on Saturday night if the movie is not guessed before then.

I will be able to answer questions until about 11:00 p.m. daily Eastern time.

I am thinking of a movie that was made in the 1940s. Good luck!

  10. Saz, you paid attention very well. But, this is not the correct movie. 1. No.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1) Was it directed by George Stevens?
    2) Is Robert Stack in the movie?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hi, Sharilee!
    1. No.
    2. No.

I think, since this is the second day, that I will give a second clue. The director of this movie is also given a writing credit. He is listed second for the screenplay. He is not listed for the story.

  13. 3) Was Bette Davis in the movie?
    4) Was Barbara Stanwyck in the movie?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sharilee, your answers:
    3. No.
    4. No.
    5. No.
But I truly do like "Christmas in Connecticut!" Sharilee, last night Kim asked if Bette was in the movie already. I will, therefore, allow you to ask one more question if you would like.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Last question: Did the movie win any Academy Awards?

    ReplyDelete
  17. 5. No. But that was truly a good question as it rules out many movies.

Be sure and check back tomorrow, in the event the Game is still afoot, Sharilee!

  20. 1. Does the film star either James Stewart or Cary Grant?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi, Dawn!
    1. No.

    Hi, Sark!
    1. No. You ruled out two with one question!

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. Is it "The Major and the Minor"?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Saz,
    1. No.
Good to have you playing, too!

    ReplyDelete
  24. 3. Was the film released by either MGM studios or Paramount?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sark,
    3. No. Very good question. You ruled out two studios.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 4. Does the film star a comedy team, e.g., Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, or the Marx Brothers?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sark:
    4. No, no comedy teams. But two of the stars were in three movies together. And two of the stars were in two movies together. In all of these pairings, this was the only comedy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sark:
    5. No. Black & white.
    And very good questions!

    ReplyDelete

  33. Hi, Everyone! I am delighted to see more questions this morning (it is still morning Central time).

    Kim:
    1. No. But I need to see that again!
    2. No. Excellent question. You ruled out two directors.
    3. No. Again, excellent question. I have always been a fan of both!

    Gilby:
    1. Yes! I love saying yes!
    2. No. But great question!

    Sharilee:
    1. No. Again, excellent guess.
    2. No. But this was one of the best questions yet. It truly eliminates a lot of movies.

You are all off to a great start. Keep pressing for the stars and I think you will be successful.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1. Was the film directed by Delmer Daves?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi, Sark!
    1. No. I think it will be hard to guess this director.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sharilee:
    3. No. Sark asked this last night. So you still have three questions for today!

    ReplyDelete
  37. 3) Is Marjorie Main in the movie?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sharilee:
    3. No.

I am going to provide a third clue since today is the third day. The two leading stars of this movie each share the same first letter on their first names and this letter is found in the first half of the alphabet. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sharilee:
    5. No. But I think your guesses have all been logical and very good!

Bonus hint: No one has named an actor or actress yet that has the first letter of the first names, found in the first half of the alphabet, for the two principle stars. So we know that the following letters are not the first letter:
    B, C, F, H, J, K, M.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Darn, I think I may have finally figured it out and I am out of questions for the day. Will have to wait until tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sometimes I hate rules, too. I was really hoping someone would guess this today, for a very good reason.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe someone else will figure it out today. Your last clue is what finally clued me in, so maybe someone else will figure it out today.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Forgot to mention, you made an excellent choice for the movie this week, it was nice to really think about it and put all the pieces together. I think this is the longest without a winner.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thank you, Sharilee. I hope someone will be able to figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hello, Saz!
    1. No.

    Hello, Gilby!
    1. No.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Saz:

Woo Hoo! Woo Hoo! I am thrilled! We have a winner! Yes, "Never Say Goodbye," starring the delightful Errol Flynn and gorgeous Eleanor Parker, is the movie that has stumped the masses! It will be shown tonight at 11:30 on TCM. I love the Santa Claus scenes.

Saz, as our winner, would you like to think of the movie for next week's game?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks to all the posters whose questions narrowed down the choices and toto2's 3rd clue and bonus clue. Warner Bros. comedy before 1946 with both leads having first names starting with the same letter, etc. Two E's was my last attempt; not really known for their comedic work, but Errol and Eleanor were a match. Yes, I will think of a movie for the 22nd.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Congrats Saz and excellent game Toto!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wasn't able to play this week, but monitored the game. This was by far the best one! Great job to everyone, especially Saz on getting it right and Toto for picking a fun movie. I'm looking forward to your pick next week, Saz.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thank you all for working so hard to play this game! I appreciate your sweet comments, Gilby, Sharilee, Saz, and Rick.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Toto I loved how the first clue was vague and then as each day passed, we got another clue.
