Name the Movie Game (22 December Edition)

As a reminder, here are the rules:

1. You may ask up to five yes or no questions a day. Each guess does count as one question.

2. Please number each question or each guess to make it easier for me to respond to them.

3. The player who is the first to guess the movie correctly will be the one to make the selection for the following week’s Name the Movie Game.

4. The game will end on Saturday night if the movie is not guessed before then.

I will be checking the blog often from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

I am thinking of a movie made in the 1940's. Distinguished film critic James Agee didn't like it.

50 comments:

  1. 1.)Was this movie made after 1946?
2.)Was the role against type for the star?
3.)Did the idea for the movie come from another creative genius?

  2. Gilby37:

    3. I have to qualify that "yes"; not a creative genius, but from a previously published source.

    ReplyDelete
  3. 1. Can the film be classified as at least one of the following: comedy, musical, or film noir?

    ReplyDelete
  4. 1. Is the film famous to the ordinary movie lover?
    2. Was Agee alone in his criticism?
    3. Was it set during and about World War II?
    4. Was it Casablanca?

    ReplyDelete
  5. 1. Is it set in the United States?
    2. Was it nominated for any Oscars?
    3. Does it star Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Barbara Stanwyck, Gary Cooper, or Bette Davis?

    ReplyDelete
  6. 1. Did the movie feature one or more of the following actors: James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Claude Rains, Gregory Peck, Tyrone Power, Charles Laughton, Spencer Tracy, Bob Hope, William Holden, or Donald Crisp?

    ReplyDelete
  7. 4. Is it a thriller/suspense, mystery, romance, or horror film?

    ReplyDelete
  8. 4.) Is it "It's A Wonderful Life"?

    ReplyDelete
  9. 2. Did the movie feature one or more of the following actresses: Deborah Kerr, Olivia De Havilland, Joan Crawford, Joan Fontaine, Joan Bennett, Merle Oberon, Elsa Lanchester, Mildred Natwick, Claudette Cobert, or Carole Lombard?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Saz, my last question of the day (gee, five questions go quickly!): Is it a thriller/suspense film or mystery?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Rick29:

Can I give you an extra turn, since the answer to #4 should have been NO.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 3. Does the film feature a romance?
    4. Was the film nominated for any Academy Awards?

    ReplyDelete
  13. 5. Is the occupation of a lead or supporting character one or more of the following: actor/actress, doctor, lawyer, thief, saloon owner, store employee, clergy, journalist, policeman/sheriff, or secretary?

    ReplyDelete
  14. 5. Saz, then will be my final question: Was it directed by OR starred in by one of the following: Cary Grant, Frank Capra, Alfred Hitchcock, Dick Powell, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Bing Crosby, Ingrid Bergman, Glenn Ford, Basil Rathbone, Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, Otto Preminger, Preston Sturges, Olivia de Havilland, Judy Garland, Jennifer Jones, or Lauren Bacall (whew!)?

  19. Boy, you've picked a good one Saz! Goodnight

    ReplyDelete
  20. 4) Is it Sunday Dinner for a Soldier

  21. Sharilee:

    4. YESSSSSSS!!! You are the winner! Nice job of sleuthing!

    ReplyDelete
  22. OMG! That was a total long shot, it was the only movie I could think of that didn't have any of the stars that have been ruled out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sharilee:

    Terrific guess! Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  24. That was awesome, ShariLee! I had no idea. You're pretty good at this! Are you game for next Tuesday?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey, wait a minute. What's the limit of names you can guess in one turn/guess? The next time this game is held, can I ask you if the movie starred "at least one ore more of these actors" and list 50 actors? (in one guess?)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Saz, this was quite challenging and fun! Well done, Sharilee!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tom, you could do that. But even using the 50% strategy, it'd take you a couple of days to whittle down the list...which might defeat the purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am game for next Tuesday. I will come up with a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Rick I don't understand your comment...are you trying to say that I would not guess the film in less than one day? Looks like Sharilee got it in less than one day.

    ReplyDelete
  30. No, Tom. I'm saying that if you listed 50 actresses and got a "yes", your best strategy would be to cut the list in half repeatedly until you narrowed down the actress. If you did that, it would require more than five turns because you're going from 50 to 25 to 12 to 6 to 3... That's my only point. Glad you're playing!

  31. I'm looking at this from the strategist's point of view: I might benefit from the clues of the other guesses, then strategically ask about a few actors/actresses to whittle it down. I'm using the outrageous number of 50 as an example, when realistically, I might just have a few.

How many administrators of this blog are there? Just curious. Thanks.

  32. OK, I understand your strategy. There is one administrator and nine contributors, but it's a democratically run blog site!
