Hey Paul! I can redeem myself from last week's question about Errol that I couldn't answer. Director Raoul Walsh got a couple of friends to take Barrymore's body from the funeral home. They took it to Errol Flynn's house and propped Barrymore up in a chair. When Flynn got home, he completely freaked out to see Barrymore's unembalmed body sitting in his chair. Of course, all were extremely drunk at the time. I can't help thinking that Barrymore would have laughed the hardest at this ghoulish joke.
ReplyDeleteBecks, good job! I'd be disappointed if you didn't know this one....see I did get a Flynn question in for you!
ReplyDeleteRaoul Walsh said that when he took the body back, the mortician asked "Where did you take him?" When Walsh replied, "To Errol Flynn's house" the mortician said, "You should have told me! I would have put him in a better suit!" LOL!
#2. Was it, Keith Jackson?

"oh my gosh" !!!
Paul, I was so excited about knowing the Barrymore story I forgot to do #9 and #10. Jan and Dean opened the concert, and James Brown performed before the Stones. It's hard to believe now that the Stones would need to be afraid of following ANYBODY.
ReplyDeleteDawn, I love your simple reaction to the Who Are We answer -- oh my gosh is right! What a wild bunch they were!
Dawn, Keith Jackson is the answer to #2! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if you can ever catch Raoul Walsh in The Men Who Made the Movies, just watch his face as he tells the story about John Barrymore's body. His final comment is, "Those were the days!"
Becks, you're right about #9 and #10! BTW the T.A.M.I. Show has recently been released on DVD.
6. I'll try to Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell, and Dandy Don.
ReplyDelete7. Jim McKay.
8. Wasn't Curt Gowdy one of them?
I'm sorry, but... that is just wrong(((gag)))on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteWell Rick, you had the free pass, but jumped in anyway! Good for you! #6 is wrong, but you're right about Jim McKay and Curt Gowdy. For #6, remember I said the FIRST season!
ReplyDeleteDawn, are you still talking about the practical joke played with Barrymore's body? Then you better not watch Blake Edward's film, S.O.B., because he uses a variation of it!
I agree with you that it's wrong....but it is part of Hollywood history and so belongs on this site! LOL!
Based on his appearance in another question, I'll go with Mr. Versatile: Keith Jackson to go with Howard and Don for Season 1 of MNF (not the same not that it's on ESPN).
ReplyDeleteIt's about time you figured it out, Rick! LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a trick question!
Time for a recap: #1, 3, 4, and 5 are still unanswered.
ReplyDelete#4. Was it.. Herb Alpert?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Herb Albert in that movie.
ReplyDeleteIs #5 Frankie and Annette?
Good work, Dawn! You got #4! I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteTom, Herb Alpert was a trumpet player in the band at the yacht club dance. Sorry, #5 is not Frankie and Annette.
#3. Was it.. Archie Moore? (I had help from the DH).
ReplyDeleteDawn, the DH is right!
ReplyDelete#5 I think that would be Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck
ReplyDeleteLOLOL!! Welcome back Gilby! Want to come to Pismo and eat some clams?
ReplyDeleteYou're right on the money, of course! Great job!
