Well, it's a New Year and here's another episode of Trivia Time! Enjoy!
Who Are We? We made two films together; the first was a Western and was the first Western for both of us. In real life we had an affair during the filming of that first movie. Who Are We?
Who Am I and Which Film is This? Once after kissing Ann Sheridan on screen, my character remarked, "It would have been better with a French girl!" Who Am I and Which Film is This?
1. Name the director of the film mentioned in Who Am I and Which Film is This?
2. Name Suzanne Pleshette's first film and the director.
3. Name two aviation films with screenplays by Ernest K. Gann, based on his own books. Name the stars and the directors as well.
4. Who was first offered the role of Tom Destry in Destry Rides Again, but turned it down?
5. Name the films referred to in Who Are We?
6. Name one thing these films have in common: Fate Is the Hunter, White Christmas, Now Voyager, and the Man Who Came To Dinner.
7. Name the Saturday sports show which ran on CBS in the '60s and '70s.
8. Rumor has it that this Warner Brothers director took offense to a nasty comment about a lady made by this leading man. They had a fist fight in David O. Selznick's front yard and both ended up being treated at different hospitals. Name them and the film they eventually made together.
9. Name the lady who was reportedly slandered by the leading man in #8.
10. Name one thing these films have in common: Sergeant York, The Invisible Man (1933), Bad Day at Black Rock, and Tammy and the Bachelor.

Who am I: Cary Grant in I Was a Male War Bride
ReplyDelete1. Howard Hawks
4. Gary Cooper
That's all I know.
Kim, welcome back to TT! You're right about all of them, good job!
ReplyDelete2. THE GESIHA BOY directed by Frank Tashlin.
ReplyDelete7. CBS Sports Spectacular. One of my college teachers was a free-lance photographers that worked on it.
ReplyDelete6. Mary Wickes (who was in tons of movies...but also the Disney serial ANNETTE).
ReplyDeleteRick, you're on a roll! Way to go! BTW, Fate Is the Hunter was on TCM last night.
ReplyDeleteRecap: still need to answer #3, 5, 8, 9, 10, and Who Are We?.
3.) The High & the Mighty starring John Wayne and Robert Stack directed by William Wellman
ReplyDeleteIsland in the Sky starring John Wayne and James Arness also directed by Wellman
Ta-dah...we have a winner! Gilby's got #3! Good job!
ReplyDelete8.) John Huston and Errol Flynn fought. The Roots of Heaven is the movie they made together.
ReplyDelete9.) Nora Eddington was the woman
Again, I graciously bow to Gilby's knowledge. I haven't been feeling well, so I guess I'll use that as my excuse. Really, seriously, I'm not well. Sorry, Joann. You are so good at getting dear Errol into Trivia Time! I'll do better next time.
ReplyDeleteGilby, you are correct on #8!
ReplyDeleteJohn Huston and Errol Flynn slugged it out in Selznick's driveway after Flynn said something nasty to Huston at a party. Flynn ended up with broken ribs, while Huston suffered a broken nose.
As for #9, Flynn did NOT insult Nora Eddington, as Nora was his wife at the time and was with him at that particular party. So please guess again!
Becks, JoAnn and I hope that you feel better very soon!
Paul, I just dropped by to say "Happy New Year" to you and your awesome wife JoAnn.
ReplyDeleteI heard Eddington was Flynn's estranges wife and she & Huston were having a fling
ReplyDeleteDawn, thank you and Happy New Year to you! Thanks for the kind remark about my wife; yes, she's awesome but it goes to show you that you Riverside girls stick together, LOL!
ReplyDeleteGilby, it's possible that later on when Nora left Flynn she had a fling with Huston, but at the time of the fight, they were still together, and Flynn had brought Nora with him to the party at Selnick's home. However, it is true that the lady in question was "romantically linked", at least in rumors, with both men at different times.
And I just gave you WAY too much information! LOL!
