Here are the unanswered or partially answered questions for TT84:
Who Am I? My debut was in a Barbara Stanwyck film noir. In this and subsequent films, I primarily played villains, and so got to "threaten" many of the big names in Hollywood. What I tried to do to Gloria Grahame in a certain Oscar-winning film was probably the most bizarre death threat I made in my career. Who Am I?

WHO AM I? That would be Olivia de Havilland as Maid Marian in THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD. She says the line to Una O'Connor, her lady-in-waiting.
ReplyDeleteYep, Rick...you got it! I told JoAnn it was too easy, LOL!
ReplyDeleteOne of #3 is VON RYAN'S EXPRESS and I believe a second one is FROM HERE TO ETERNITY.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm really curious about the answer to #6! I have no idea and that combo just fascinates me. :-D
Awww, Rick beat me -- but I'm a good loser, Rick. Congrats! I know that line so well!
ReplyDeleteWho the h---heck is Lyle Bettger? Was anybody really suppposed to know that? Now I have to look him up, because you didn't say which film or what the bizarre death threat was! That's the main thing I wanted to find out!
Poor Charlton-- he really "died a thousand deaths"!!
3. I know Sinatra died in From Here to Eternity and The Devil at 4:00 (one of my faves). I'll have to think more for the other two.
Duh, #6 is Escape Me Never. (Mr. Flynn looks awfully good in tha electric blue sweater, JoAnn!)
ReplyDelete#1 is Meteor. I think her lover was Sean Connery, but she ended up going with Brian Keith at the end. It's been a long time, so I may have them mixed up.
DKoren, you're absolutely right about those two! Good job...and keep thinking!
ReplyDeleteBecks, as to Lyle Bettger, you'd know him if you saw him! He was a well-known villain in lots of Westerns, as well other types of movies.
As for the bizarre death threat, have you ever seen The Greatest Show on Earth? He threatened Gloria Grahame with an elephant's foot in the face!!
Now that's something you don't see every day, LOL!
And yes, you're right about the Flynn-Parker picture being Escape Me Never, but it's #5 not 6...I think you were too focused on Mr. Flynn in electric blue!
JoAnn told me you would LOVE that picture!
And sorry, Meteor is not it....Wood and Malden did both appear in that film, but he wasn't her father. He was a NASA engineer and she was a Russian.
But don't give up!
Oops, sorry Becks, didn't address your answers to #3. Yes, you're right on both counts, and I have to confess I forgot about The Devil At 4:00, so there are obviously more than four....at least five!
ReplyDeleteRecap: still need to answer #s 1, 2, part of 3 (2 films left), 4 and 6.
ReplyDeleteThe second I looked up Lyle Bettger's picture, I knew just who he was and how we threatened to make Jumbo-jam out of Gloria's face! Just never knew his name!
ReplyDeleteIt HAS been a long time since I saw Meteor -- thought that was it...(she could have been an ADOPTED Russian child)..
I watched a movie (on tv) in the mid to late 1960's. This is what I remember:
ReplyDelete- during WWII;
- a man helps a lady get out of occupied Europe? or Germany;
- he puts her in a very large suitcase;
- she was going to wear a bathing suit but at the last minute, she changed to a light housecoat;
- they are at a train station with armed guards (the Gestapo?) and it is very, very cold;
- the train is late and she is in the suitcase for a long time;
- when asked, he said the suitcase(s)(he may have had two) contained very heavy books;
- they didn't get caught; they did make it onto the train.
I've just spent many hours going through names of old movies and can't find it.
