Here are the answers to the unanswered questions from TT89....many thanks to everyone who participated last week!
Who Am I? I was a top model for the John Robert Powers agency before I began acting. I was nominated for an Oscar for my very first movie, and was also nominated as the Most Promising Newcomer to Film by BAFTA. Despite this impressive start to my career, and appearing in a number of movies and television shows in the '50s and '60s, in my later years I ended up supporting myself by working as a typist. I took my own life with an overdose of sleeping pills at the age of 49. Who Am I?
Answer: Maggie McNamara (Oscar-nominated for Three Coins in the Fountain)
1. What do these three films have in common: The Searchers, Key Largo, and The Glass Menagerie?
Answer: Scores by Max Steiner.
2. Beulah Bondi and Troy Donahue both appeared in this film. Name the film, the director, and the stars.
Answer: A Summer Place; Delmer Daves; Richard Egan, Dorothy McGuire, Sandra Dee (and of course Troy Donahue).
4. Name the stars of the only film to feature both Anthony Quinn and Mildred Natwick.
Answer: Errol Flynn and Maureen O'Hara in Against All Flags.
6. Bette Davis had one issue with the final version of the film, Now Voyager. What was it?
Answer: She thought Max Steiner's score detracted from her performance.
7. Name the film in which Edward Everett Horton's character dies a hero's death.
Answer: Roar of the Dragon (1932)
And without further ado, TT90 (wow, 90!), starts below.....enjoy!

The "Who said" quote is from John Wayne in The Searchers.
ReplyDelete#7: Beloved Infidel
Drawing a huge blank on the rest!
Brandie, you are absolutely correct! I would have also accepted Captain Newman, M.D. for #7. Good job!
ReplyDelete2. I know Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr were in HEAVEN KNOWS, MR. ALLISON, THE GRASS IS GREENER and THE SUNDOWNERS together. I hope that's it.
ReplyDeleteHey sark, long time no play! Nice to "see" you!
ReplyDeleteYep, you nailed #2....way to go!
#7, Captain Newman, MD
ReplyDeleteCaftan Woman, gee....I'm having deja vu, LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes, Brandie used Beloved Infidel for #7 and I mentioned Captain Newman, M.D. above, but I'll give it to you anyway!
Who Are We: I may be reading this wrong, but was the other guy Michael Curtiz?
ReplyDeleteLove his candid pics best of all, Paul/Joann team!
Becks, sorry, no cigar....it's not Michael Curtiz this time! Hard to believe that he had fights with other directors (other than Curtiz) too, LOL! (Yeah, right!)
ReplyDeleteWe're glad you like the ginormous, candid Flynn pic!
BTW, did you notice that you and Rick both missed last week's sneaky Flynn question? What's up with that?!?
Well, Paul, you have to admit that was a REALLY sneaky question. And I do occasionally have other things on my mind besides Errol -- I just can't think of what they are at the moment. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had another answer to my wrong one, but I don't. I'm a BAD Errollette!
On #3 - is it that they were all filmed in the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine?
ReplyDelete#1) Bonita costarred in The Morta; Storm and Escape at MGM. She starred with Tim Holt in Hitler's Children at RKO
ReplyDeleteGood job on #3, D!! That was a sneaky "California-local" question, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Gilby! I knew if anyone were to get #1 right it would be you!
Recap: still need to answer Who Are We?, and #s 4, 5, 6, and 8.
ReplyDeletePlease note: I've altered the wording of Who Are We? slightly. Perhaps this will clarify things?
ReplyDeleteIt did help some Paul. I'm ashamed to say I had to look it up, but that was a job! Anyway, in David Selznick's yard, Errol and John Huston had a 10-minute fist fight over Errol's estranged wife, Nora Eddington. Both men ended up in the hospital. Epic! Homeric!
ReplyDeleteBecky, yes John Huston is person #1. Very good!
ReplyDeleteDo you know who person #2 is? (no, it's not Errol this time....he only had one fist fight with Huston that I know of)
BTW, according to one of the books we have about Flynn, he and Nora were not yet separated because they attended that Selznick party together (where the Homeric battle took place).
The fist fight was supposedly about Olivia de Havilland. Olivia had dated Huston for some period of time prior to this, she was in love with him but he didn't want to get married.
At the party, Errol reportedly said something extremely rude and crude about Olivia to Huston (the author of the book wondered if Errol was jealous??), so naturally Huston hit him, that's what started it.
And yes, they were both sufficiently injured that they needed medical attention.
The source I found said it was about Nora, but you know how a lot of sources aren't all that correct. I have no idea who #2 is. I'll be interested to find out!
