Helen Hayes and Tony Randall. |
For those who have never played this game, you will be given a pair or trio of films or performers. Your task is to find the common connection. It could be anything--two stars who acted in the same movie, two movies that share a common theme, etc. As always, don't answer all the questions so others can play, too. There is a single best answer for each question.
1. Jessica Tandy and Burt Lancaster.
2. Richard Basehart and Stewart Granger. (This one could be difficult!)
3. Fredric March and Michael Rennie.
4. George C. Scott and Chuck Connors.
5. Judy Garland and Red Buttons.
6. Sylvester Stallone and Gregory's Girl.
7. Ray Milland and Vincent Price.
8. Tony Randall and Helen Hayes.
9. James Stewart and Ronald Reagan.
10. Shari Belafonte and Bill Dana.
11. Clint Eastwood and William Devane.
12. The Omen (1976) and the Dr. Kildare TV series.
13. The Batman TV series and the film King Kong (1976).
14. The series Mission: Impossible and The Rat Patrol.
15. William Daniels and Ann Sothern.
Tony Randall and Helen Hayes played Christie characters (Poirot and Marple).
ReplyDeleteCW, thanks for getting this month's game off to a good start! I like Tony Randall, but not as Hercule (the film's comedic tone is the problem, though). Helen Hayes was a pretty good Miss Marple.
Delete13. Batman and King Kong both liked to climb up the sides of tall buildings.
ReplyDelete14. One of the later Mission: Impossible stars was Lynda Day George. Her husband, Christopher George, starred in The Rat Patrol.
ReplyDelete15. Both were the voices of talking cars, Daniels in Knight Rider and Sothern in My Mother, The Car.
Well done, Jerome, on both questions!
Delete2. Whales. Moby Dick, All the Brothers were Valiant.
ReplyDeleteBoth also starred in tv series based on movies..
Very good on both counts! And there's another connection, too.
Delete10. Both played TV characters who worked in a fancy hotel.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, they did!
Delete6. Soccer/Football? "Gregory's Girl" was a high school rom-com with soccer as the backdrop, and Stallone starred with Pele and Michael Caine in a WWII- era POW film with a football match as the climax.
ReplyDeleteYou're spot on! The connection is soccer (or football for most of the world).
Delete7. House of Wax movies?
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent connection--I forgot about Milland's TERROR IN THE WAX MUSEUM. But there's also another connection between these actors.
DeleteAlso 11. How about Flags of our Fathers and Flag of My Father.
ReplyDeleteThat's very good, too. They also starred in movies or TV series with the same actress.
DeleteAlso 7. Only two actors to star in Roger
ReplyDeleteCorman's Poe movies.
Well done, Bill!
Delete2. French Revolution.
ReplyDeleteAnd another connection is that they both played swashbuckling heroes disguised as actors in SCARAMOUCHE (a fave) and CARTOUCHE.
Delete4. Dolphins - George C. Scott = The Day of the Dolphin and Chuck Connors in the Flipper movie.
ReplyDeleteIt's an odd movie, but I've been in the mood to see DAY OF THE DOLPHIN recently.
Delete1, Birds - Tandy in The Birds, and Lancaster in The Bird Man of Alcatraz.
ReplyDeleteThere may be other answers, but this is the first one that popped into my head.
Delete13. The '76 King Kong's screenplay was by Lorenzo Semple Jr, who wrote the first episodes of the '66 Batman.
ReplyDelete1. Jessica Tandy and Burt Lancaster. Lancaster worked with Tandy’s husband Hume Cronyn in “Brute Force” (1947).
ReplyDelete1. Jessica Tandy and Burt Lancaster. Lancaster worked with Tandy’s husband Hume Cronyn in “Brute Force” (1947).
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting connection, too!
Delete9. Fictionalized bio films about real-life baseball stars -- James Stewart in The Stratton Story; Reagan in The Winning Season.
ReplyDeleteVery good, beachgal!
DeleteStill needing answers are 3, 5, 11, 12, and 13.
ReplyDelete3. Jekyll/Hydes.
ReplyDeleteLes Miz.
Great job, Bill--as always!
Delete5. Both Garland and Buttons lent their voices to the 1962 animated movie Gay Pur-ee
ReplyDeleteYes, but there's another connection and it has to do with flying.
Delete11. Clint Eastwood and William Devane. Devane appeared in “Space Cowboys” (2000) starring and directed by Eastwood.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but they are also connected by an actress they appeared with.
Delete5. Hot air balloons in Wizard of Oz, Five Weeks in a Baloon....
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed. Speaking of FIVE WEEKS, I haven't seen it in years. Doesn't seem to play TV very often in spite of an interesting cast.
Delete11. Ok, I’ve got it now. Eastwood and Devane are connected by Donna Mills. Eastwood and Mills were in “Play Misty for Me” (1971). Devane and Mills were on TV’s “Knot’s Landing.”
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Delete13. Writer Lorenzo Semple, Jr. scripted several episodes of the "Batman" series (plus the feature film) and the 1976 "King Kong" remake...which, to some, is no longer the worst version of Kong to hit the big screen.
ReplyDeleteThat's the connection! And I agree with you. By the way, there were a few critics who liked the 1976 KING KONG when it was released. Not one of my faves, but better than Jackson's incredibly disappointing version.
Delete#12 and another answer for #1 are all that remain!
ReplyDelete12. Jerry Goldsmith penned theme songs.
ReplyDeleteNothing gets past you!
DeleteAre you sure we still need another answer for #1? I thought we put that one to bed.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct (and thanks). And that conclude this edition of the Movie-TV Connection Game. Kudos to all you smart people out there!
