Come in out of the heat...and play the latest edition of the Cafe's most popular game. As always, you will be given a pair or trio of films or performers and challenged to find the common connection. It could be anything--two stars who acted in the same movie, two movies that share a common theme, etc. As always, don't answer all the questions so others can play, too. There is a single best answer for each question.
1. Peter Fonda and Yul Brynner.
2. The Incredible Hulk and Mission: Impossible.
3. Rod Taylor and James Darren.
4. The TV series Little House on the Prairie and the movie The Thing With Two Heads.
5. Gregory Peck and Walt Disney.
6. John Wayne and Jack Lemmon.
7. Greer Garson and Petula Clark.
8. Anthony Perkins and Rod Taylor.
9. Ward Bond and Sylvester Stallone.
10. Connie Stevens and Deborah Kerr. (This one might be hard!)
11. John Wayne and Fess Parker.
12. Greer Garson and Susan Hampshire.
13. Burt Lancaster and Lloyd Bridges.
14 Judy Garland and Alan Young.
15. Raquel Welch and Jill St. John.

4. Ex-Los Angeles Rams. Merlin Olsen in Little House and and Rosey Greer in Thing With Two Heads.
ReplyDelete7. Greer Garson was the female lead in Goodbye Mr. Chips, the same part Petula Clark played in the musical version.
10. Hawaii. Connie Stevens was in Hawaiian Eye and Deborah Kerr was in From Here To Eternity.
Great job, Jerome, on all three answers! There is another (more obscure) connection between Connie and Deborah.
Delete#8. Jane Fonda as leading lady. Tall Story with Perkins and Sunday in New York with Taylor.
ReplyDelete#11. Davy Crocket. Wayne in The Alamo and Parker for Disney.
#12. The Forsyte Sage for Hampshire, and That Forsyte Woman for Garson.
Well done, CW, on 11 and 12. You're right with #8, too, though there's another answer (which is perhaps more fun).
Delete3. Time travel. Rod Taylor in Time Machine, Darren in the Time Tunnel.
ReplyDeleteI time-traveled into the future so I knew that you would answer this correction correctly!
Delete9 Heavyweight Champions. Bond as John L. Sullivan in Gentlemen Jim, and Stallone as Rocky in the Rocky franchise.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be awesome if someone would edit footage of the two of them boxing against each other?
Delete6. Jack Lemmon was in Cowboy. John Wayne was in Cowboys. Both had inexperienced people on a cattle drive.
ReplyDeleteVery good. They also shared a common occupation in different movies.
Delete1. Peter Fonda and Yul Brynner were both in Future World (1976).
ReplyDeleteIn hindsight, this was perhaps too easy a question...but well done on getting it.
Delete2. Popular TV series that became a movie franchise
ReplyDeleteThat is true, but there's a more interesting connection.
Delete5. Whales - Peck in Moby Dick and Disney with Pinocchio.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't even think of that! There's also another animal connection.
Delete15. Dean Martin as a co-star - St.John in Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed and Welch in Bandolero.
ReplyDeletebeachgal, you and your big brain are always finding connections different from the intended ones. The Dean connection is a great example. There is another connection between Jill and Raquel and it's a big one.
DeleteRecap: Still looking for answers (additional ones in some cases) for: 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 14, and 15.
ReplyDelete15. Robert Wagner - Welch in The Biggest Bundle Of Them All; St.John married to RJ Wagner.
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome connection! Who would have thunk these two had so much on common? There's still something else..and it's BIG.
Delete#13. Both are in movies about airplane disasters, although very different in tone obviously. Bridges in Airplane!, and Lancaster in Airport.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you, Patrick! They also both managed airports: Lancaster in AIRPORT, as you pointed out, and Lloyd in the TV series SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
Delete5. Deer - Peck in The Yearling; Disney with Bambi.
ReplyDeleteVery well done! It's worthing fawning over!
Delete8. Another answer would be Hitchcock - Perkins in Psycho and Taylor in The Birds.
ReplyDeleteThat's excellent...it truly is. Many people forget all the bird connections in PSYCHO. Norman stuffs them, Marion's last name is Crane, and she's from Phoenix. There still another nifty connection, though.
Delete2. Weekly false identities.
ReplyDelete14. Cartoon voices of animals.
Good job on both, especially the cartoon voices. However, there's another excellent connection for 2 and a less interesting animal one for 14.
Delete2, Only other thing I see is Bixby had a short series as a magician, Nimoy played one on MI.
ReplyDelete14. Lions....
ReplyDeleteNicely done, Bill! JUdy in OZ and Young in the rarely-shown ANDROCLES AND THE LION.
Delete15. Dinosaurs. St.John in The Lost World and Welch in One Million Years B.C.
ReplyDeleteProving yet again as that you are movie and TV guru of the highest authority!
DeleteRecaps: Still looking for (additional, in some cases) answers for: 2, 6, and 8. Another answer for 10 is shipboard romances: Connie in SUSAN SLADE and Deborah in AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER.
ReplyDeleteSince this game loses its appeal if it get drawn out, here are some hints. #2 is a connection between an actor in each series (and not Billy Bixby on HULK). #8 is an occupation shared by Perkins and Taylor in different movies. Ditto for Jack and the Duke in #6.
ReplyDelete2. Lou Ferrigno The Hulk, and Peter Lupus Mission Impossible , were both professional bodybuilders.
ReplyDeleteHooray! So glad you got that one. Peter even played a bodybuilder in MUSCLE BEACH PARTY and Lou shared screen time with Arnold in the docu PUMPING IRON.
Delete6. Both played pilots in airplane in peril movies. Lemmon in Airport '77 and Wayne in The High and The Mighty.
ReplyDeleteAnother impressive answer, fandex.
Delete8. They had very different methods of handling guests, but both actors played hotel managers, Perkins in the aforementioned "Psycho" and Taylor in the aptly named "Hotel."
ReplyDeleteWell done and you make a good point, too!
DeleteThat closes out this month's game. Thanks to everyone who played. As always, my favorite part was reading about all the connections in additions to the "official" answers!
