The Three-Word Movie Game

Today, we're trying out a new game in which we describe a movie in three words and ask you to name it. That sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? Most of the questions below are pretty easy, but there are a few that might pose a challenge. Please answer only three per day so other people can play. There is a "best answer" for question, but other answers may be possible. Let us you know if you enjoy this game!

1. Inn, Vermont, snow.

2. Holmes, phantom, Canada.

3. Vampire, mother, windmill.

4. Newlywed, housekeeper, mansion.

5. Farmer, gunfighter, boy.

6. Binoculars, camera, cast.

7. Robot, diamonds, elevator.

8. Physician, slave, pirate.

    1. Right on all, but please follow the rules (only three answers per day so others can play).

    2. Oh, I'm sorry. Next time I'd better read the rules at first :)

  3. 16 Citizen Kane
    18 Five Card Stud

    1. I rather enjoy FIVE CARD STUD...one of the better late 1960s Westerns.

    1. Nicely done, Toto, especially on THE NAKED KISS (a great Sam Fuller movie not many folks have seen).

  5. Here's a recap of what's left: 2, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 17.

    1. It could fit, but there's a better answer.

    2. The slap is important. It's not just any old slap and has written about in discussions of the film.

    3. 10 - In the Heat of the Night.

Also, for 18, "The Sting" fits too--it features "murder," "poker," and "revenge," and in that order.

    4. Yes, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT! I figured that multiple movies would work for some of these questions.

  7. Here's two stabs at it: #7) Forbidden Planet. #10)In the Heat of the Night. Thanks.

    1. IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT is correct (though I guess technically there were two slaps). There's a better answer for #7, though you have the right decade and genre.

  8. 9 - Forbidden Games?

    1. Wondering if perhaps my memory of that French postwar classic was faulty, I went to the plot summary on Wikipedia:

"After five-year-old Paulette's *parents* and pet *dog* *die* in a German air attack on a column of refugees fleeing Paris, the traumatized child meets 10-year-old Michel Dollé .... The two attempt to cope with the death and destruction that surrounds them by secretly building a small cemetery ... where they bury her dog and start to bury other animals, marking their *graves* with crosses stolen from a local graveyard ...."

Perhaps you could reconsider your answer?

    2. It might fit if Michel is an orphan, too. But there’s definitely another answer.

    1. Very good, Toto! One of my favorite dog movies.

  12. Yikes, I noticed a major typo in #2. It's Holmes, not Homes. Should make that question a lot easier!

  13. Still remaining: 2, 14 (pretty hard), and 17.

    1. The politician part is very important. Here's another word: France.

  15. Is # 14. The Scarlet Pimpernel?

    1. That works, but there’s another answer, too.

  16. #2. The Scarlet Claw (This answer courtesy of my parents. I was reading these to them, and this was one of the few they answered.)

    1. Please tell your parents that was very impressive!

    2. They rewatch the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes all the time. I'd completely forgotten one took place in Canada.

  17. Only #14 is unanswered, so we'll add two words: France and theatre.

    1. Hooray! Thank you, Toto! That ends this game. We may try it again in the future.
