The proverbial rules: You will be given a pair or trio of films or performers and will be required to to find the common connection. It could be anything--two stars who acted in the same movie, two movies that share a common theme, etc. As always, don't answer all the questions so others can play, too. There is a single best answer for each question.
1. James Mason and Herbert Lom.
2. Hope Lange and Tuesday Weld.
3. Cliff De Young and James Stewart.
4. Richard Carlson and Rod Steiger.
5. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nigel Green.
6. Alec Guinness and James Mason.
7. Paul Newman and Robert De Niro.
8. James Stewart and Danny Kaye.
9. Miriam Hopkins and Audrey Hepburn.
10. Ronald Reagan and Ray Milland.
11. The movie Leave Her to Heaven and the TV series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
12. The Mark of Zorro and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.
13. Dale Robertson and Sean Flynn (Errol’s son).
14. Sally Field and Gary Collins.
15. Tony Randall and Kenneth Branagh.
11. Darryl Hickman, Dwayne's brother, appeared in both (3 episodes as Davey Gillis)
ReplyDeleteWell done, Hal! (Bonus points for spelling his first name correctly.)
DeleteWhy don't I get a couple of the easier ones out of the way?
ReplyDelete15. Hercule Poirot. Tony in The A.B.C. Murders and Kenneth in Murder on the Orient Express.
11. Dwayne Hickman in both.
12. Tyrone Power in The Mark of Zorro and his daughter Taryn Power in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.
Easy only to you! Great job on 15 and 12. Per above, Darryl Hickman was in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN.
DeleteGood morning. Let's try these two on for size:
ReplyDelete1. Both actors portrayed Captain Nemo, Mason in Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and Lom in the 1961 version of "Mysterious Island."
14. Both were the stars of ESP-themed 1970s TV shows, Collins in "The Sixth Sense" and Field in the sitcom "The Girl with Something Extra" (the latter cries out for a reboot starring RuPaul).
You're right on both! I thought #14 was a hard one, so congrats especially on getting that one.
Delete5.Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nigel Green. Both played Hercules.
ReplyDeleteIndeed they did! Not many people have seen (or even know of) Arnold's movie.
Delete10. Baseball movies. Reagan in The Winning Team, and Milland in the delightful It Happens Every Spring.
ReplyDeleteAnd they played baseball pitchers for the St. Louis Cardinals. Thanks for showing some love for It Happens Every Spring. I loved it as a kid and still enjoy it.
DeleteLooks like I need to redeem myself with another go.
ReplyDelete9. Miriam Hopkins and Audrey Hepburn shared the screen in The Children's Hour and Miriam played Audrey's character Martha in the first screen version, These Three. Both the 1961 and 1935 movies were directed by William Wyler.
You are redeemed...and then some!
Delete2. Hope Lange & Tuesday Weld played Selena Cross. Hope in Peyton Place, Tuesday in Return to Peyton Place.
ReplyDelete7. Both played real-life boxers, Newman was Rocky Graziano in Somebody Up There Likes Me and DeNiro was Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. (I can't believe no one mentioned this one yet.)
ReplyDelete8. Both played jazz musicians. Stewart was Glenn Miller in The Glenn Miller Story and Kaye was Red Nichols in The Five Pennies.
Great job on getting both questions, Jerome!
DeleteHere's quick recap. The following four questions have not been answered yet: 3, 4, 6, and 13.
ReplyDelete3. Lindbergh. Had to look de Young up.
ReplyDelete4. Ray Bradbury.
That was a hard one. Well done, Bill.
Delete6. Alec Guinness and James Mason were both in "The Fall of the Roman Empire"; Guinness got the role in "Bridge on the River Kwai" over Mason; and both played spymaster George Smiley in different films.
ReplyDeleteRon, you got the answer I was looking for (the Le Carre connection) and then some!
Delete13. Both played in "Son" movies: Robertson, "Son of Sinbad"; Flynn, "Son of Captain Blood."
ReplyDeleteYes, and they both played in movie/TV series about trains: Dale in the TV series Iron Horse and Sean in the movie Stop Train 349.
DeleteThis wraps up another edition of the Movie-TV Connection Game. Our thanks to everyone that played!
